In Search of Self-Governance
By Scott W. Rasmussen - Published 2010
Today, Americans are united. United in the belief that our political system is broken, that politicians are corrupt, and that neither major party has the answers. Add to this the growing disdain for the unholy alliance between the largest corporations and our government, and there is a lot of frustration festering in our country. Some of us are ready to give up; some of us are ready to scream a little louder. But all of us believe we can do better.
Americans don’t want to be governed from the left, the right, or the center. We want to govern ourselves. The American desire for – and attachment to – self-governance runs deep. It is one of our nation’s cherished core values and an important part of our cultural DNA. It’s what makes our nation special. And right now, it needs to be saved.

Take Comfort and Solace - A Small Business and Family’s War with Federal Bureaucrats
By William G. Pierce, P.E. - Published 2004
With an engineering degree in hand, Bill Pierce set out to reach the pinnacle of his profession with the receipt of his licensure as a Registered Professional Engineer and the experience to support his specialty of conceptual planning. The dream never included the development of an engineering consulting firm operating out of three Midwest cities with annual revenues in the millions, fifty professional employees, and a clientele list of some of the largest companies in the country. It was a true American success story.
But the plan never included a protracted sixteen year battle with federal bureaucrats. A battle which ultimately cost Pierce his business, professional stature, office, two United States Patents, and his family’s home and financial security. The battle lines were drawn in the sand when the government’s attorney called Pierce to demand he negotiate or federal lawsuits would be filed over Pierce’s flextime policy he established for his employees. The government’s concept of negotiate was do it “their” way or else, even though no defining regulations, federal documentation, or case law to support their position could be provided.
In Take Comfort and Solace …, Pierce exposes the practices of federal bureaucrats that have set them free to conduct business contrary to federal law, and free of any degree of responsibility and accountability. You will learn how a federal agency:
• violated their own handbook, regulations, federal law, an acknowledged mandate from Congress, and a presidential executive order to create a new avenue of litigation against private sector employers
• created a double standard to keep private sector employees from a flextime policy, at the same time they created an exemption for all government workers
• altered the “plain language” of the law in court documents
• filed false and fraudulent court claims in order to harass and intimidate
You will also discover how their actions fall below the radar of Congress and the federal court’s system; and even when they are exposed, the agents are held to no accountability at all. But most importantly you will learn that the chief administrator feels it is acceptable for the department’s attorneys to do whatever is necessary to “win”, and the most vulnerable among our society is the small business owner.
Reviews:
“Take Comfort and Solace …. Is a sharp cautionary tale about the dangerous powers of an unchecked bureaucracy, and a stirring call to get involved in governmental actions and missteps before it is too late.”

“If ‘External Vigilance is the Price of Freedom,’ this book should be read by everyone in this country. The exposure of who is in charge of us, our government, and who backs them is timely and well documented.”

The Mindquest Review
“I have followed William Pierce’s case for fifteen years and have written about it both as a newspaper columnist and editorial writer. I believe he has been dealt multiple injustices by both the executive and judicial branches of the federal government. The ongoing news value is his story in how officials of the federal government exceed their constitutional powers and destroy businesses and individual wealth.”
